Think of it as a bitter, medicinal-tasting Martini and you’ll have some idea of the lip-puckering tartness that awaits you when you mix up one of these babies. Supposedly it stimulates the appetite and focuses the mind, although depending on your taste for cough syrup it may only stimulate you to order something else next time. But if you’re down for the Count, try making yours a double.

¾ part sweet vermouth
