Started Working

After months of miserably trying to apply for a job in Australia, and getting jack; I made the move back home, and so far it's the best decision I've had this year.

Sent out hundreds of applications in Melbourne, got some calls, and then got ghosted about 90% of the time took a toll on my mental state. Days after days of doing almost the exact same thing: Wake up, check email, send more CVs, code, eat, play video games, and sleep. You sorta feel like being trapped in time, making little to no progress in life, and constantly checking your inbox looking for any sort of communication (or lack thereof) feels like absolute shit.

Thank the gods for my football team who still manage to meet every weekend even during the pandemic, and friends who we'd get together quite often for drinks or I'd legit be clinically depressed then. But after half a year of doing almost nothing, I took a gamble and sent out a resume to a company in Hanoi. And they replied in 2 days. And they called me in for an interview 2 weeks from then. Of the 300-ish applications I've sent while living in Melbourne, none of them has replied to me in less than 3 weeks. The first resume I sent to a company in my home country I got an interview almost immediately.

So, *snap finger* just like that, I made the move.

That first opportunity didn't pan out, unfortunately :P, but it was a breath of fresh air. The next couple of days did not disappoint. 10 applications, 8 calls, and 5 interviews later I got a Java developer job less than a month since I touched down in Hanoi. Life is good and I couldn't be happier.

This new tech stack has been quite nice. My teammates are friendly, not much pressure and we make good progress on this banking application project we've got. And some of my friends from my uni days are throwing around the idea of forming our own studio as well, so if that actually works out I guess I'll be working for an indie studio in a year or 2.

But so far, life is good.
